Bayside Engineering, Inc. is the first company to earn the Green Business Designation through an environmental sustainability program sponsored by the City of Tampa and the Sustany Foundation..

The Green Business Program, initiated by Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio in partnership with Sustany, awards qualifying companies a "green seal" to recognize their compliance with sustainability criteria, including green policies and practices.

"Bayside is honored to be the first Charter Member of the Green Business Program and the first Tampa company to receive the Green Business Designation," said Bayside President Kimberlee DeBosier, PE. "This recognition reflects our and our clients' commitment to sustainability and stewardship. We are proud of our leadership in raising awareness about the environmental and economic benefits of green practices."

Businesses in the program can earn one of three designation levels based on an evaluation of their adherence to a series of established criteria. Participants are likely to reduce their carbon footprint, waste and pollution as a result.

"Probably even more important to businesses in this difficult economic time, they can reduce their operating costs through reducing their energy and water use or limiting their waste," said David Reed, Sustany's founder and president.

Patrick Herman, Bayside's director of human resources and facilities management, noted that the company's participation in the Green Business Program is part of its ongoing efforts to increase the efficiency of its energy and water use and to reuse or recycle products such as paper, utensils and cups. He said Bayside will continue to reduce its environmental footprint by replacing depleted equipment and lighting with high-efficiency alternatives.

Bayside (www.baysideng.com), a Tampa-based civil engineering firm founded in 1994, is also a member of the U.S. and Florida Green Building Councils. The Sustany Foundation (www.sustany.org) was founded in 2007 to improve the quality of life in Tampa Bay by promoting a culture of sustainability.
